The Sacred Ancient Persimmon Grove at the Foot of Ngoc Mountain

To admire the ancient persimmon grove, visitors can stop by Ngoc Xuyen Communal House – a famous national relic. From here, a small path winding along the foot of Ngoc Mountain leads to Dragon Stream and then to the ancient persimmon grove. The cool, winding trail along the mountain slope opens up a journey of delightful and poetic exploration.

The Unique Beauty of the Millennia-old Persimmon Grove

The ancient persimmon grove currently has 17 trees, each ranging in age from several hundred to over a thousand years. Every tree bears a majestic form and carries its own story:

  • The Seven-Shoot Persimmon – over 1,000 years old, a symbol of endurance by the sea.
  • The Stream Persimmon – more than 800 years old, with a hollow trunk large enough for two people to sit inside.
  • The Lady Persimmon – around 700 years old, rising nearly 20 meters tall, standing proudly against the sky.

All of them were recognized as Vietnam Heritage Trees by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment in 2014.

Historical, Cultural, and Spiritual Values

Beyond its scenic beauty, the ancient persimmon grove is deeply tied to history. During the resistance war, the persimmon trees served as hiding places for documents, secret shelters, and safe meeting points for revolutionaries. In the famine of 1945, the ripe persimmons that fell from the trees helped save many poor families from hunger.

In cultural life, persimmon trees appear in fairy tales, folk games, and in rituals where ripe persimmons are offered on ancestral altars — symbols of purity and family reunion.
