According to legend, Hung Kings were the sons of Lạc Long Quân (a dragon) and Âu Cơ (a fairy). The Hung Kings founded the Văn Lang kingdom – the first nation of the Vietnamese people. They also taught the people how to farm, raise animals, and build a peaceful and prosperous life.
Hung Kings Commemoration Day is held annually on the 10th day of the third lunar month. The main festival takes place at the Hung Kings Temple Complex in Phu Tho and is also observed in thousands of temples across the country.
