K15 Wharf – The Starting Point of the Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail
The starting point of the legendary route called the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea
As the starting point of the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea, the Wharf K15 Relic in Hai Phong has long been the most authentic historical site representing Vietnam's resistance against the American imperialists during the war for national liberation.
Today, the Wharf K15 Relic still stands as a testament to the heroic stories of the past, continuing to inspire future generations. Come visit this famous historical site with Doson Resort & Casino and relive history!
Where is the Wharf K15 Relic located?
The Wharf K15 Relic is situated in the southwest, right at the foot of Van Hoa Mountain. It is located in Van Huong Ward, Do Son District, Hai Phong City. The site is surrounded on three sides by majestic mountains and forests.
From the center of Hai Phong City, take Pham Van Dong Road and head towards Do Son District. Passing by Khu I and Khu II beaches, and then going up a slope along the mountainside to Khu III beach, visitors will eventually find Unnumbered Wharf K15 nestled at the foot of Van Hoa Mountain – the endpoint of Do Son.
Is the "Unnumbered Wharf" named so because the boats had no numbers?
The truth is quite the opposite of what the name suggests. In fact, each boat departing from the wharf often had many numbers. To ensure secrecy, the boats assigned with special missions were disguised as fishing vessels. They were not allowed to have fixed numbers to blend in with the local fishing fleet.
In fact, each time the boats set out to sea, they had to choose the most extreme weather conditions. The boat captains were young men, ready to make the ultimate sacrifice. They disguised themselves as fishermen, traders, and others to avoid drawing attention from the enemy during transport missions.
The historical significance of the Wharf K15 Relic
In 1959, the Politburo ordered the establishment of two strategic transportation routes to support the Southern revolution with both manpower and resources. These were the Ho Chi Minh Trail and the maritime transport route across the East Sea, named after President Ho Chi Minh.
For 14 years (1961-1975), the Wharf K15 Relic silently witnessed the departure and arrival of unnumbered ships.
- Overcame 65,721 nautical miles
- Transported nearly 153,000 tons of weapons and ammunition
- Provided support for over 80,000 people to the Southern frontlines
After more than 60 years, today, the Wharf K15 Relicremains as a historical relic. The concrete pilings of the dock are about 30 meters from the shore. On land, there are the foundations of warehouses, water tanks, and other remnants.
The Unnumbered Wharf – A Must-Visit Historical Site in the Port City
At the end of 2005, the city built the Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail Memorial next to the Unnumbered Wharf K15. This monument was erected to honor the heroic achievements and sacrifices of the Navy soldiers.
The symbol of a sail is cast in concrete, with four sides and four indentations that resemble the folds of a sail. The base is a square block, with beveled edges in a hexagonal pattern and painted in dark greenish-blue. On either side of the steps, there are symbols of the ship's helm and rudder.
Carrying with it the heroic historical stories of the nation, the Unnumbered Wharf has now been preserved and maintained as a historical site for visitors to explore when they come to Do Son.
It stands as a "living testament" to the heroic era of bombs and bullets fought by our ancestors, so that future generations can better understand and feel proud of the peace and independence our nation enjoys today.
We should visit the Unnumbered Wharf K15 to learn more and express our gratitude for this great sacrifice.
