On the 9th day of the 8th lunar month, they return for buffalo fighting.

The Doson Buffalo Fighting Festival, also called “dau ngu,” is an ancient tradition. Locals believe it expresses gratitude to the deities, praying for good harvests and peaceful lives.

• Rituals (Sept 22 – Oct 7, Lunar Aug 1–16): Traditional ceremonies include the water procession, incense offering, deity worship, sacrificial rituals, and farewell rites. They reflect gratitude to ancestors and prayers for peace, prosperity, and favorable weather.
• Festivities (Sept 30, Lunar Aug 9): Held at Doson Ward Central Stadium, featuring dramatic buffalo fights. This year, 16 buffaloes will compete, representing wards and 2024 winners.
